Report

Due to COVID-19 Restrictions on crossing the Canadian-USA border, the National Hockey League realigned its four divisions for a shortened 2020-21 season beginning at the start of January, with all seven Canadian teams in one North Division, and the 24 USA teams in 3 Divisions: East, Central and West. All teams are to play a 56-game schedule with Intra-Divisional games only up to the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals (i.e. Only matches against teams from their own Division). The top four teams in each division will qualify for the Divisional Semi-Finals, with the winners meeting in the Divisional Finals. The Four Divisional Champions then meet in the Stanley Cup Finals. All Rounds of the Playoffs will be best of 7.

Report

Vancouver Firefighters won the second annual Pacific Coast International Championship for the John F. Kennedy Cup in 1962. The format for the competition was two double-headers in Los Angeles, with Semi-Finals, 3rd Place Playoff and Final, held over four days.

Vancouver defeated hosts Los Angeles Kickers 7-4 on penalty kicks (the Mexican version of Penalties whereby a player attemptsto dribble from the halfway line before shooting at goal against the goalkeeper) in the second semi-final. The match was an extraordinary on, finishing 4-4 after normal time, before two periods of extra time (30 minutes and 15 minutes) failed to separate the sides. Scots-born Bob Mackay, the only non-Canadian born player on Vancouver’s squad scored all three of their penalty kicks. The other semi-final wasalso a high-scoring game which went to extra-time, Mexico B defeatng San Francisco Scots 5-3.

The Final, at Wrigle Field, Los Angeles, required only the regulation 90 minutes to see Vancouver defeat Mexico B 2-1. Three days previously at the same venue the two Semi-Finals had lasted from 1 pm to 7:13 pm when the Final Penalty Kick was saved, most of the 7,000 crowd staying on until the end. The Competition was to be held until 1965 in Los Angeles, with the hope that more Pacific regions could join in.

Report

Ireland and Scotland have shared honours almost equally between 2000 and 2009, with Ireland going on a winning streak from 2000-2003, before Scotland won from 2005-2008. In 2010 the series became a home-and-away series with the aggregate score over two legs deciding the winners.

About

The first Hurling-Shinty International Rules match was played back in 1897 in Glasgow between Cowal (Scotland) and Celtic (Dublin). [1] There have been regular Internationals between Ireland and Scotland since 2000.

Shinty is very similar to Hurling and the two games would have the same Gaelic Celtic origin with Shinty most popular in Gaelic Scots part of Scotland, particularly the Highlands. The game, however, does not include over-the-bar points, only goals and there is less play in the air than in Hurling.

The International Rules series includes points-over-the-bar and in the early 2000s included ‘behinds’ like in International Rules Football between Ireland and Australia.

The scoring system is three points for a goal and one for a point (over-the-bar). In 2012 an experimental scoring system was used whereby a goal was worth 5 points. From 2000-2003 a scoring system was employed whereby a goal was worth 6 points, an ‘over’ 3 points, and a ‘behind’ (a score into posts either side of the two main posts) 1 point.

13-a-side or 14-a-side have both been employed, halfway between Hurling’s 15-a-side and Shinty’s 12-a-side. Bot teams play with their own sticks, so it is a game played with two different sets of equipment.

Report

The Russian Open Championship – League of American Football was divided into a Premier Division and Five Regional Divisions in 2016, with the addition of Minsk Litvins from Belarus in 2016. Moscow Patriots won the Final 12-7 against Moscow Spartans. With the loss of its South Division in 2017 and 6 of its teams, the Regions Cup was introduced which was won by Perm Steel Tigers from the Volga Division, who qualified for the LAF Semi-Finals with a 36-7 win over Moscow Dragons in the Regions Cup Final. Joining them in the LAF Semi-Finals were the top three teams in the Premier Division: Moscow Spartans, Moscow Patriots and St. Petersburg Griffins. Moscow Patriots won the LAF Final 24-6 over St. Petersburg Griffins. In 2018, the last year of the League of American Football, Perm Steel Tigers again won the Regions Cup, defeating Moscow United 42-6 in the Cup Final, joining the same three teams as in 2017 in the Semi-Finals. This time Moscow Spartans became one of a handful of teams other than the Big 3Teams (Moscow Patriots, Moscow Bears and St. Petersburg Griffins) to win the Final, triumphing 7-3 in a low-scoring Final with Moscow Patriots.

About Russian American Football and the League of American Football

The Federation of American Football of Russia was formed in 1992, just immediately after the the end of the USSR and Communism. After that oneseason, the League took a long break, returning in 2002. In 2016 teams were added in Kazakhstan (Astana Wolves) and Belarus (Minsk Litvins) and became a Russian Open Championship, named the League of American Football. After losing three of its division between 2016 and 2018, and 16 of its initial 26 teams, the top four broke away in 2019 to form the East European Super League (Moscow Spartans, St. Petersburg North Legion, St. Petersburg Griffins and Minsk Litvins).

Report

Donetsk Scythians defeated the Kharkov Atlantes 22-20 in the Ukraine Super Bowl VI after finishing the season with 7 wins and one tie in their eight matches. Khzarkov Atlantes were the only team to take a point off them in the entire season, finishing on 5 wins 2 losses and one tie, with both losses coming against the Scythians. Kharkov Atlantes are named after the Atlantic Ocean, which is in itself named after Atlantis, what some archeologists believe may be the Tin Mining Regions of Ireland and Cornwall, known to the ancient Greeks. It is keeping with other teams in the early years of Ukraine American Football League being named after Ancient Peoples or Cultures, namely the Donetsk Scythians. The name Atlantic Isles is also used instead of the British Isles. [Reference: 2-3].

About Ukrainian American Football League

The Ukrainian American Football League started in the first few years after independence from the USSR in the early 1990s.
