Report

NDMA (British Level 1) sides Milton Keynes Pioneers and Northants Storm met in an American Football friendly over Winter 1993, with the Storm winning by one converted touchdown.

The same week, in a Charity match in aid of the baby care unit at John Ratcliffe Hospital, Oxford, the USAF Upper Heyford Skykings overcame an Oxford Saints All-Star team 33-8.

Report

The Yorkshire Rose Winter League was a four-team League in Northern English County of Yorkshire, which played over the Winter of 1993. New team Manchester A’s, made up of Veterans and former Junior players from the Manchester All-Stars joined the Five Towns Falcons (based in Fitzwilliam), the Leeds Cougars and Yorkshire Rams (Huddersfield).

Leeds beat Yorkshire 30-0 in the first match, and in the second the Falcons tied with Manchester.

Report

Munich Cowboys won the German Bowl 42-36 in double overtime against the Cologne Crocodiles in 1993, then went on to play the Hamburg Blue Devils in the Final of the European League, losing 53-30.

The European League of American Football was a limited schedule League involving the Blue Devils (who played an independent schedule that season), Cologne Crocodiles, Munich Cowboys and Britain’s Manchester Spartans.

The Cowboys had finished top of the Sud Division with a 13-0-1 Wins-Losses-Ties record, and the Cologne Crocodiles finished top of the Nord with a 13-1 Record. Other playoff qualifiers in the Nord were Berlin Adler (12-2-1), Dusseldorf Panther (10-3-1) and Hamburg Silver Eagles (8-6). Southern playoff qualifiers besides the Cowboys were Hanau Hawks (9-4-1), Rothenburg Knights (8-5-1) and Noris Rams (7-7). Teams played a 14-game regular season, only two less than the National Football League in USA.

Report

Hamburg Devils played an independent schedule in 1993. They played matches against European teams Aix-en-Provence Argonauts, Helsinki Roosters, Amsterdam Crusaders, Uppsala 86ers (Sweden), Finland All-Stars as well as American teams Findlay Oilers and Pacific Lutheran University.

They also played in a limited schedule European League with GFL teams Cologne Crocodiles and Munich Cowboys, as well as Britain’s Manchester Spartans – renamed the Euro Spartans for the occasion. They defeated German Bowl Champions Munich Cowboys 53-30 in their last game of the season, finishing 10-2, with the two losses only coming against American teams.

Report

Mali won the 1997 Cabral Cup – a Regional Cup in Western Africa held every two years – by defeating Senegal 1-0 in the Final. The eight-team tournament was held at the end of November and beginning of December 1997 in Banjul, Guinea-Bissau. Gambia and Guinea also qualified for the Semi-Finals.

The Tournament was played as two groups of four playing a single round-robin with the top two qualifying for the Semi-Finals. The other four countries were Mauritania, Cape Verde Islands, Sierra Leone and hosts Guinea-Bissau.

Zambia won the COSAFA Castle Cup in 1997 – the Regional Soccer Tournament for Southern Africa – by finishing top of the 5-team Final Round on 8 points, two ahead of second placed Namibia, with Mozambique a further point behind in third. They lifted the title after drawing 1-1 away to nearest challengers Namibia in the final fixture of the round-robin tournament.

Report

Great Britain, which had threatened to break through into the ranks of the European American Football Elite at the previous European Championships in Finland, showed that they were the new power on the continent, blowing away the opposition, winning 26-0 against Finland in the Final, near Bremerhaven, Germany, with Victor Ebubedike scoring three touchdowns. They had earlier beaten Germany 36-8 in the Semi-Finals, who had to settle for bronze, with defending champions Italy in fourth.

Germany, as hosts, and Italy, as holders, qualified automatically for the Finals, to be held in Bremerhaven, on the North Sea Coast. In the first round of the Qualifiers France and Norway beat the Dutch and Swedes respectively, before falling to the British and Finns.

Report

Italy won the 1987 American Football European Championship defeating West Germany 24-22 in the Final in the Olympic Stadium, Helsinki, Finland. Finland took the Bronze Medal, winning 38-22 against Great Britain in the 3rd Place Playoff.

The Tournament was organised by the European Football League and played as a four-team elimination tournament in Helsinki, Finland from the 20th to 23rd of August.

National Football League Preseason Matches in Canada 1960-1969 [Ref: 1]

Report

Between 1950 and 1969 the National Football League played 10 matches in Canada, seven against Canadian Football League teams and three NFL Exhibition matches. In 1960 the first of these National Football League preseason matches was played in Toronto, Canada, with Chicago Bears defeating the New York Giants. There was then a gap until 1969 when a further two matches were played, Detroit Lions winning against Boston Patriots, and Pittsburgh Steelers beating New York Giants.
