The American Football League of 1926 was the first Major League rival to the NFL to use the AFL name. It lasted one season, and was won by Philadelphia Quakers. It featured one ex-NFL team in the Rock Island Independents who transfered over for the season from the NFL.

Con O’Brien , who was born in Ireland, according to “Growth of A Game”, played for Boston Bulldogs in 1926.
