Position: Linebacker University: Rice University, TX (NCAA) Professional: Scottish Claymores (NFL Europe) 1996-1999 Biography: Emmett Waldon was born in Cork and played NCAA football for Rice University before signing for the Scottish Claymores in 1996 – the same year as Scottish Rugby Union captain Gavin Hastings. His father was an Irish Rugby Interprovincial player. In his first year at the Claymores he would have earned £25,000 as well as bonuses and travelling expenses. He played four years for the Claymores as a linebacker. He was the first Irish player to play professional American Football in the NFL in a skilled position since the 1920s .[8] |
