Report

The Champions Professional Indoor Football League was created on August 10, 2012, when representatives from six cities met in Council Bluffs, IA, with the intention of forming an Indoor American Football League. The teams were Sioux City Bandits (IA), Lincoln Haymakers (NA), Wichita Wild (KS), Oklahoma Defenders (OA), Kansas City Renegades (MI) and MidMissouri Outlaws (Sedalia, MI). They were joined for their first season by Omaha Beef (NA), Salina Bombers (KS), Bloomington Edge (IS) and Kansas Koyotes (Topeka, KS). The League was based entirely within the Prairie States and Southwestern Mid-West.

Wichita Wild defeated Salina Bombers 37-24 to win the Championship Game in 2013 and in the 2014 title game they defeated Sioux City Bandits 46-41. The League lost MidMissouri Outlaws and Kansas City Renegades after the 2013 season, but gained a new team in Dodge City, nicknamed the Law.

The League merged with teams from the Lone Star Football League in 2015, becoming Champions Indoor Football.

Report

Player-Coach of the Erris (Mayo) Rams in 2009, Brian Wilson, a native of Glengad, Co. Mayo, played defensive linebacker for Kamiakin High School in Washington State in the 1980s. He went over there on a school exchange program, and knew enough about American Football through watching it in TV in Ireland to have known the rules. When he came back to Ireland he did not think he would ever play American Football again, but when the Erris Rams set up in Castlebar he got involved as a 38-year-old player-coach.

The Kamiakin High School Played AAA Football during the spell he played there, the highest level in Washington State High School Football (they now play 3A). AAA has since been reclassified as 4A. Kamiakin High School won the 3A State Championship in 2016-17. The Football team are known as the Kamiakin Braves.

Final

Tiptree Titans 10 London Acorn Lasers 6

A shaky start by both offenses led to a low-scoring first half, with Simon Dobinson making the sole score in the second quarter, a 40-yard field goal, after missing one in the first period from 27 yards. In the third quarter both sides scored touchdowns, Tiptree’s Quarterback Dominic Harvey connecting with Wide Receiver James Cooke to bring them to the 20-yard line, and then on a fake field goal, holder and free safety Stephen Lamb threw to Michael Lane in the endzone. The Lasers hit back immediately, with Simon Paris running 94-yards on the kickoff return, aided by some excellent blocking. The two extra-point attempt, which would have left them within a Field Goal, failed, leaving the score 10-6 to Tiptree Titans at the end. There was some consolation for the London acorn Lasers as Simon Paris earned the game MVP for his run.

Report

From 1998 to 2002 the British Senior Flag League ran 9v9 and 5v5 Flag American Football Leagues in England. The 5v5 version was the International Standard as promoted by the NFL, but England also ran a 9v9 Senior Championship.

In 2003 the League renamed itself the English Senior Flag League. Fen Harriers won that year and from 2004 to 2005 the Leicester Europa Eagles won the title.

The popularity of 9v9 dropped off after 2002, and the format was no longer used after 2005, as the NFL standard became the British Standard. While the League was called the British Senior Flag League prior to 2003, and was open to all teams in Britain, all teams were English and there was a separate Scottish Flag Football Association north of the border. The British American Football Association officially recognized Flag Football and took over the running of both leagues in 2008.

Report

The idea for American 7s came to Ryan DePaul late in 2002. His High School Football playing career was over and there was no possibility of playing College Football. He was playing pick-up, no pads or helmet football in parks and thought it needed codifying, so in 2005 he began to develop 7v7 No Pads, No Helmet, Tackle American Football.

In 2014 he was approached by lifelong friend and entrepreneur, Sener Korkusuz about launching the League to Major League level. Soon afterwards the American 7s Football League was born, starting its first season in March 2015.

The 2015 season was covered in Regional Press in Maryland and well as National and International Websites, with the 2015 Champion being Paterson New Jersey U. The 2016 Champions was Trenton New Jersey Brothers in Christ (New Jersey BIC), and in 2017 Union City (New Jersey) Chiefs won the Chapionship, which was a milestone for the league as it was televised on ELEVEN Sports Network in 70 Million households in the USA and 8 countries Worldwide.

In 2018 the League was won by Baltimore Gators, 28-14 over Baltimore Vikings, and in 2019, PA Immortalz won the Championship, defeating NJ Paterson U 26-19. For the 2020 Season the League added a West Coast Division with teams in Long Beach, Riverside and San diego, but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Investors included former NFL Player and household name, Deion “Prime Time” Sanders. [Ref: 4-5]

Report

Futbol Americano Mexico (FAM) was started in 2018, playing its first season in 2019, as a rival to the Liga Futbol Americano Profesional (LFA) in Mexico. It was the first league other than the NFL to play by NFL rules, with the exception of overtime, which is by NCAA rules. All other leagues outside of America, bar the Canadian Football League (which has its own rules) are played under NCAA rules. [Ref: 4]

The 2020 League was suspended after the games on 14 March due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic. Tequileros de Jalisco (3-1) and Bulldogs de Naucalpan (2-1) were out in front in the Division Voit. In Division BWW, Caudillos de Chuihuahua were clear leaders on a 4-0 Won-Loss Record.

World Series of Professional Football Results 1902

Report

The first National Football League of 1902 was formed by three teams: The The Phillies and Athletics of Philadelphia, and the Stars of Pittsburgh. All three played matches against each other as well as teams not from the League, but had tangled their League standings so much it was impossible to tell which had actually won. The fourth power at the time Watertwon Red and Blacks from Upstate New York had already claimed to be “World Champions”.

With a large Arena to fill for New Years Eve, and so many other attractions in New York at the time, Tom O’Rourke, the famed Irish-American Boxing Promoter, who was manager of Madison Square Garden at the time decide to hold the first “World Series” of Professional Football. He invited both the Phillies and Athletics from Philadelphia, and the Watertown Red and Blacks, but declined to invite the Stars of Pittsburgh, as he thought New Yorkers would not go the see a team from Pittsburgh.

The Phillies and Athletics combined to enter one team, although the team was named “New York” for the occasion. The Watertown team declined to take part, so to pad out the schedule, Syracuse Athletic Club, from Upstate New York were invited, as were Orange Athletic Club from New Jersey, and Warlow Athletic Club from New York. The Hometown Knickerbockers were also invited, Both the Knickerbockers and Warlow were expected to be a big Hometown draw. The Syracuse team added players from Watertown Red and Blacks, also Upstate New York, so could also with some justification consider themselves a Major Football Team like the “New York” team of Phillies and Athletics. The team called itself All-Syracuse for the occasion.

The scheduling was a problem, and with a six-team tournament, Orange AC were given a bye to the Final game. The first game on 28 December 1902 was between the two teams who could likely have contested a World series Final: All-Syracuse and New York, which All-Syracuse won 6-0 depriving Tom O’Rourke of his big draw for the Final. In the other preliminary match New York Knickerbockers beat Warlow AC 11-6. They lost to All-Syracuse in the knockout second round, or Semi-Final, 36-0. This deprived O’Rourke of another big hometown draw for the Finale on New Years Eve. In this match All-Syracuse again won 36-0 against inferior opposition in Orange AC.

Pennsylvania and Upsate New York were the big football regions at the time and scheduling them for the first match rather than keeping them apart until the Final is bizarre. Another aspect of the series that was unusual was the field: Indoors in Madison Square Garden, and only 70-yards between the goalposts rather the 110-yard field that was standard at the time. It has gone down on record as the first Indoor Professional Football match. The field was laid with earth after the wooden floorboards were taken up, but it described as “sticky and holding” which meant speed and cleverness were neutralized and the games were about size and strength eve more than usual. One football player knocked himself silly running into the walls in the opening kickoff of the first game and never took part in the rest of the game.

An interesting footnote to the the Series to Irish readers is that a Gaelic Football match was played as a curtain-raiser to the main event on New Years Eve.
