Report

Terry McFlynn played in four matches for Sydney FC in the AFC Champions League in 2011. The Northern Ireland National was sent off in the first group game against Suwon Samsung Bluewings FC of South Korea after 33 minutes of a 0-0 draw at home. Missing the next two matches due to suspension Terry returned for a 3-2 victory away to Shanghai Shenhua of China, although he was again cautioned, this time getting a yellow card after 19 minutes. He played in the next two matches, losses to the Suwon Samsung Bluewings FC in Korea (1-3) and Kashima Antlers FC in Japan (1-2) as the Australian team crashed out of the competition in the Group Stage. Terry was substituted after 81 minutes of the loss to Kashima Antlers FC. Suwon Samsung Bluewings FC won the Group and Kashima Antlers FC also qualified for the last 16.

Sadd SC Doha from Qatar, who had to go through the Qualifying Rounds to qualify for the Group Stage, eventually won the competition 4-2 on penalties in the Final versus Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors FC of South Korea, after a 2-2 draw. Sadd SC had some good fortune along the way, however, as a 1-0 loss away to Foolad Mobarekeh Sepahan FC in the Quarter-Finals was overturned and awarded 3-0 to Sadd SC due to Foolad Mobarekeh fielding an ineligible player. Having lost the second leg also 1-2 at home, Sadd FC would have been eliminated if it was not for the 3-0 awarded victory.
