Report

This was the Qualifier for the European Championships in 2018 in this Dutch variant of Basketball.

Ireland won their first two matches in Pool B quite easily over Switzerland and Armenia before losing to Serbia in their final Pool game. They then lost in the Semi_finals to Hungary before beating Greece 24-5 in the 3rd Place Playoff.

The Top Two Qualified for the European Championship finals, however, Russia withdrew so Ireland took their place.

Report

_________________________________________________________

Rugby League in Ireland dates back to the 1990s when a number of Rugby Union players formed the Dublin Blues as a way of keeping fit over the Rugby Union off-season. They entered the Challenge Cup in England, the Rugby League equivalent of Association Football’s FA Cup.

By the 2000s an Irish League was up and running on a provincial basis with an All-Ireland Playoff at the end of the season. In 2006 there were enough teams playing to create a separate All-Ireland Premiership for the top clubs.

In 2007 this Premiership was narrowly won by Treaty City Titans of Limerick, with a 2 point advantage over Carlow Crusaders. The next year they again won the Premiership, but fell short in the Grand Final, losing 24-6 to rivals Carlow Crusaders. The 2009 Premiership was again hotly contested by Treaty City and Carlow.

Following the 2009 season the Irish Rugby League again reverted to a single-tier provincial league system with the Provincial Champions contesting the All-Ireland Playoffs.

Report

The Australian Rules Football League of Ireland was founded in 2001, and by 2011 the two geographical divisions were merged into one Premiership.

Leeside Lions won the 2011 Premiership title and South Dublin Swans the Grand Final. The 2012 season belonged to the Belfast Redbacks who won both the Premiership and Grand Final, defeating Galway Magpies 74-48. They would again win the Premiership in 2013, however, would fall short 76-56 to the South Dublin Swans in the Grand Final.

Belfast Redbacks would again win the 2015 Premiership, losing only 1 of 8 matches. The 2016 season would see both titles go south as the Leeside Lions took the Premiership and defeated Belfast Redbacks convincingly in the Grand Final 104-52. They would repeat the feat in the 2017 season, beating South Dublin Swans 85-41 in the Grand Final to add to their second Premiership in a row.
