Qualifiers

Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Paraguay Qualify for Finals in Mexico 1986.

Report

Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil – the three traditional powers in South American Futbol (Soccer) qualified for the Mexico ’86 Finals from the three groups as expected, although it was not without hiccups towards the end, with Argentina losing in Peru and just about managing to qualify from Group 1 with a 2-2 draw at home to the Peruvians in the Final fixture. Uruguay needed to beat Chile in their Final match to qualify, and did so, 2-1. Brazil meanwhile only drew their last two games at home to Paraguay and Bolivia 1-1. Paraguay won through from the four-team runners-up playoff for the fourth South American place at Mexico ’86.

Jorge Luis Burruchaga of Argentina, played with Nantes Atlantique in Brittany, France at the time. Atlantic civilisation is sometimes used as a wider way of identifying the Celtic peoples, including the Irish, along with other Atlantic civilisations to which the Celtic races were a part of in pre-history [Reference: 6-7]
