Gridiron New Zealand National Provincial Championship Results 2000 [Ref: 1]

Report

Auckland Hammerheads won the National Provincial Championship in Gridiron NewZealand in 2000, defeating the Manawatu Bulls 12-6 at home, before triumphing 50-6 in the second game in Upper Hutt against the home side, Wellington Reapers. The match between Auckland and Wellington was the first ever Gridiron New Zealand game to be televised nationally. it was shown four times on Wellington’s Saturn Television during February.

Australian Inter-State Millennium Tournament Results 2000 [Ref: 1]

Report

Three of Australia’s State Gridiron sides met for the Millennium Tournament in Adelaide from 22 to 29 January 2000. The Victoria Volunteers and South Australia Dragons easily dealt with the Alice Springs Redbacks.

In the Final Group match the SA Dragons won thanks to QB Shane Challans connecting with Dallas Turner with a fourth-and-goal touchdown play. The result was reversed, however, in the Final, with the Victoria Volunteers winning 9-0.

Auckland Premier Gridiron League Results 1999-2000 [Ref: 1]

Report

South Auckland Raiders won their fourth Kiwi Bowl in five years in 2000, defeating the expansion side Tamaki Lightning from Howick, 24-8 to become Auckland Premier Gridiron League Champions for 1999-2000.

The Raiders were undisputed Champions having captured the Minot title (Regular Season) with a perfect 9-0 record. The Lightning had finished 4-3-2 (Wins-Losses-Ties) in second place.

American Tim Hughley passed to Terry Millani for a 20 yard TD reception to open the scoring, game MVP Kevin Palagi adding to it with a 5 yard bulldozing run for a touchdown. That left the halftime score 12-0.

In the second half the Raiders suffered a massive blow when Hughley blew both knees on a failed endzone pass attempt. Undeterred the Raiders added a third TD, a 1 yard run from John Tavae.

The fourth Quarter saw the Lightning finally manage to move the ball downfield, and were rewarded with an exceptional 12 yard TD catch by Richard Carter. Alex Lineham ran in the two-point conversion. The match was put out of sight, however, by Solomona Tafai who ran in a15 yard TD with 5 minutes left, leaving the Final score in Kiwi Bowl XVIII 24-8 to the South Auckland Raiders.

Tasmanian Gridiron League Playoffs 2001-2002 [Ref: 3]

Report

University Wildcats met Clarence Sharks each year in the Tasmanian Gridiron League Island Bowl from 2000 to 2001, with the Wildcats defeating the Sharks 38-8 in Island Bowl X in 2001. In 2002 the Glenorchy Raiders shocked the Clarence Sharks in the Playoff Game.

There were three teams in the TGL each year from 1999-2000 to 2001-02 with all three teams making the Playoffs.

Victorian Gridiron Football League Playoffs 1989 [Ref: 2-3]

The Brighton Outlaws won their third straight Vic Bowl for the Victorian Gridiron Football League title in 1988, triumphing 20-17 in a closely fought encounter with the Melbourne Hornets. Melbourne led 17-6 at half time, through touchdowns from Running Backs Peter Dionysion and George Makis, but the Outlaws hit back through a TD from Bruce Ayles.

The turning point in the game came in the last 30 seconds as Dionysion fumbled the ball and the Outlaws recovered on the Hornets 25 yard line. On a 4th-and-10 with 11 seconds left Outlaws QB Jim Borta found Treye Jackson for the winning score.

In the 1989 Vic Bowl the Peninsular Sweathogs came into the game as odds on favourites, but five timely interceptions by the Doncaster Devils defense kept them in the game in the first half in front of 1,500 fans. The Sweathogs had 18 first downs in the third quarter to the Devils 7, but just as it seemed the Devils were about to give up, QB Peter Busch, scrambled for a 56 yard touchdown on a broken play in a third-and-five at their own 44 yard line.

Gerard Hoskins levelled matters for the Sweathogs on a short-yard run and the Sweathogs forced a safety on the next series, but on another broken play – the Devils designated Offensive player did not work all day – Busch broke out again for a 64-yard rushing TD. The Extra-Point was kicked and the Devils were Vic Bowl V Champions. Gerard Hoskins won the game MVP Award, for his rushing, six receptions and numerous kick returns.

Victorian Gridiron Football League Final Standings 2001 [Ref: 3]

Western Crusaders won the Victorian Gridiron Football League Vic Bowl in 1999 and 2000. In the fifth period of Overtime in 1999, Quarterback Glenn Parker connected with Wide Receiver Tal Brown for the winning touchdown, to give the Crusaders a 20-14 victory over the Croydon Rangers.

In the 2000 Vic Bowl XVI, the Crusaders defeated Nunawading Warriors 14-0 to take their second title in two years.

There were six teams in the VGFL in 1999: The aforementioned, Crusaders, Rangers and Warriors, as well as the Geelong Wildcats, Berwick Miners and Steelers. The Steelers dropped out after the 1999 season leaving five teams for both the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

Rockingham Vipers won four West Bowls straight between 2014-15 and 2017-18, before Swan City Titans interrupted their streak in 2018-19. The Vipers won it back in 2019-20, triumphing 42-12 against the Titans in West Bowl XXV.

The West Bowl is the Mens Competition Grand Final for Gridiron West (Western Australia).

Report

Hutt Valley Spartans became back-to-back Wellington Champions in 2019, after winning the Capital Bowl 20-14 in triple overtime. In the first period of overtime neither side reached the endzone, and then in the second period both the Spartans and Wellington Wolves managed to do so, which left a third period necessary.

After a massive redline stand (right in front of their own endzone) the Spartans managed to catch the Wolves offside, giving them a free play from 15 yards out. a pitch out out right to their running back with some great blocking sawthem walk it into the endzone for the winning touchdown.

Three teams had entered the American Football Wellington season, with the Wolves finishing out on top, the Hutt Valley Spartans in second on 3-3 (wins-Losses) and Portirua Warriors in third.

In a hotly-contested Gridiron Queensland 1988-89 season, Brisbane Bulldogs triumphed 7-6 in the Grand Final, after finishing third in the Regular Season on 7 Wins and 2 Losses. Centurionshad finished on top of the standings with an 8-1 record and City warriors in second on a 8-1-1 (Wins-Losses-Ties) record. In all 8 teams entered the Mens Competition in 1988-89.

Sutherland Seahawks won the AA (2nd Division) title in Gridiron New South Wales in 1989, 24-15 in the Grand Final against Newcastle Cobras. Four teams entered the AA League, which was intended to help new or smaller teams play football before entering the main competition.
