Match 1 – 13 March 2021 – Queen’s University Belfast – Ireland 1 Great Britain 2

In Ireland’s first home match in 497 days due to the coronavirus outbreak, Upton secured the lead in the first quarter with a penalty stroke after Anna O’Flanagan was brought down inside the circle. Ireland were in fine form, and had many chances, but minutes into the second half Robertson equalised for Great Britain after a move down the left wing was crossed into the circle. Match 2 – 14 March 2021 – Queen’s University Belfast – Ireland 2 Great Britain 1

After a scoreless first quarter, which saw plenty of opportunities for both teams, Great Britain took the lead in the second quarter after Sarah Evans drove the ball across the Ireland goal for Laura Unsworth to stear it past Ireland’s McFerrin. In the third quarter, Ireland equalised through Watkins who hit the backboard after an assist by Colvin. Report

In the warm-up to the World Cup in London, England, in July and August 2018, the Ireland Womens International Hockey Team played a series of friendly games in Spain, Scotland and Germany as well as two series at home in preparation for the World Cup.

In Benalmadena in February, Ireland split a four game series with Spain, winning two and losing two, before heading to Glasgow in May and June, where they won all three matches against Scotland.

After a couple of training games against England in June they returned home to play a three game series against Canada in Pembroke Wanderers, Dublin, drawing the second but losing the first game.

They then travelled to Germany at the end of June, splitting a two-game series with Germany, and drawing with Canada before finishing off the friendly series with a win and two losses at home against Japan in Cork.

A 3 Nations Series against Chile and Italy in Dublin at the end of the friendly series was the last of the preparation matches.
